Bridge Rebuild Timeline
The rebuilding of the 35W Bridge has progressed during the past several months. With each passing week, we are closer to the completion of the new 35W Bridge. Here is a week-by-week update of the construction progress:
Week #01: (Oct 29, 2007)
Major work begins at the I-35W bridge site
"The Flatiron-Manson construction team will begin work on the new St. Anthony Falls I-35W Bridge project this week, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. . ."
Week #02: (Nov 02, 2007)
Preliminary work continues on I-35W bridge next week
"During the second full week of construction on the Interstate 35W bridge project, the Flatiron-Manson construction team will continue the excavation work they started this week and begin some new activities. . ."
Week #03: (Nov 12, 2007)
"For the third full week, the Flatiron-Manson construction team continues construction work on the new Interstate 35W bridge. Work scheduled for the week of Nov. 12 includes pile driving, grading, test shaft drilling and casting. . ."
Week #04: (Nov. 19, 2007)
It may be a holiday week for some, but work on the I-35W bridge project will continue

Week #05: (Nov. 26, 2007)
Update on I-35W bridge project for Thanksgiving weekend into the week of Nov. 26
"As work continues on the Interstate 35W bridge project, crews are reaching minor milestones in the early phases of construction, reports the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The most noticeable construction activity on the project so far – pile driving – is 80 percent complete. . ."
Week #06: (Dec. 3, 2007)
Construction crews complete pile driving, continue work on bridge foundation
"As work continues on the Interstate 35W Bridge project, one of the first noticeable activities is now complete. Construction crews finished pile driving this week and are moving ahead with other major activities including bridge foundation drilling shafts, pouring concrete and building forms for the bridge footings. . ."
Week #07: (Dec. 10, 2007)
I-35W bridge project construction crews turn attention to shaft drilling
"Construction crews for the Interstate 35W (St. Anthony Falls) Bridge continue their activities despite the winter weather. This week, crews are using cranes equipped with large drilling rigs to construct shafts that will support the bridge foundations. . ."
Week #08: (Dec. 17, 2007)
I-35W cranes migrate to I-35W Bridge construction site
"The crane count at the construction site is up in the double digits now. In addition to the cranes provided locally, some have come to Minneapolis from as far away as Denver and Manitowoc. These cranes can lift between 15 and 250 tons, and they will be doing a lot of heavy lifting while they winter here. . ."
Week #09: (Dec. 21, 2007)
I-35W bridge project crews will continue to work through holiday week
"Crews working on the Interstate 35W St. Anthony Bridge project will work through much of the holiday week. . ."
Week #10: (Dec. 28, 2007)
Work continues on I-35W Bridge project during second holiday week
"In preparation for the next major concrete pour, crews will start excavating for the footing for the south-bound (west) side of Pier 3. . ."
Week #11: (Jan. 04, 2008)
Louder drilling to occur as I-35W bridge foundation work nears completion
"Crews constructing the I-35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge are nearing completion of the bridge's primary foundation work. Workers will begin drilling 69 foundation shafts for Abutment 5 and for bridges spanning Second Street on the north side of the project site next week. . ."
Week #12: (Jan. 11, 2008)
"Jan. 15 marks the 100th day since work began on the St. Anthony Falls (I-35W) Bridge Project on Oct. 8. Work is taking place on almost all areas of the site as crews begin to build the foundations for the bridge and prepare to cast the first of the pre-cast segments in the I-35W casting yard. . ."

"Progress on the Interstate 35W St. Anthony Bridge project became more visible this past week as crews began pouring concrete for structures at or above ground level. . ."

I-35W Bridge project moves ahead with construction of first pre-cast segment
"Work on the Interstate 35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge project passed another milestone late this week when concrete was poured for the first pre-cast segment for the bridge's main span. . ."
Week #16: (Feb. 08, 2008)
I-35W St. Anthony Bridge project reaches another milestone this week
"Crews working on the Interstate 35W St. Anthony Bridge project reached a significant milestone this week when they completed drilling the final shafts for the main bridge foundations on the project. . ."
Week #17: (Feb. 15, 2008)
Underground foundation work almost complete on I-35W St. Anthony Bridge
"The underground drilled shafts that form the foundation for the I-35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge project are almost complete, according to Mn/DOT project officials. Crews drilled the last of the 40 foundation shafts for the footings of the Second Street Bridges Feb. 13. . ."
Week #18: (Feb. 22, 2008)
I-35W bridge project to provide brief glimpse of column
"Crews working on the Interstate 35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge project will provide a glimpse of a bridge column Saturday when they remove the steel forms from Pier 3 southbound at approximately 11:45 a.m. . ."
Week #19: (Feb. 29, 2008)
I-35W Bridge project crews provide brief glimpse of arched main columns
"Crews working on the Interstate 35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge project removed steel concrete forms from Pier 3 southbound last weekend, providing a glimpse of the arched concrete columns. Workers immediately wrapped the columns in insulating blankets to protect the concrete structures from cold air temperatures. . ."
Week #20: (Mar. 07, 2008)
I-35W bridge project columns reaching full height
"Crews working on the new Interstate 35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge have almost completed the pier columns that will support the bridge, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. By the end of next week, all of the columns at Pier 2 and Pier 3 will have reached their full height of 70 feet. . ."
Week #21: (Mar. 14, 2008)
Half of all concrete for I-35W St. Anthony Bridge project has been poured
"Crews working on the I-35W St. Anthony Bridge project reached a key goal last week when they finished pouring the concrete for the last of the pier columns, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. With that pour, the crews have placed about 25,000 yards of the 48,700 cubic yards of concrete required for the new bridge. . ."

I-35W bridge project to pour first concrete in approach spans
"Crews working on the Interstate 35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge project will pour the first concrete for the cast-in-place superstructure of the bridge starting next week, according to Mn/DOT officials. The concrete pours will take place in the approach spans on the south side of the river, where crews have been building falsework and concrete forms for the structures for the last few weeks. . ."
Week #24: (Apr. 04, 2008)
Crews begin concrete pours for I-35W bridge approach spans
"Crews took a significant step last week when they poured concrete in the first cast-in-place approach spans on the Interstate 35W St. Anthony Falls bridge project, according to Minnesota Department of Transportation officials. Approach spans stretch over land; the bridge's main span crosses the river. . ."

Week #25: (Apr. 11, 2008)
I-35W Bridge crews to reach half-way point in casting yard
"Crews plan to reach the half-way point in the casting yard of the Interstate 35W Bridge project this week, according to Mn/DOT officials. Forty-seven of the 120 main span segments were completed last week. Crews expect to complete another 16 this week. . ."
Week #26: (Apr. 22, 2008)
Barges Arrive and Pre-Cast Segments More than Half Complete
"The two barges that will support the ringer crane used to place main span segments arrived at Bohemian Flats on Saturday, April 12. The barges have been moved up river and are now anchored near Pier 3 in preparation for the main span assembly. . ."
Week #27: (Apr. 28, 2008)
I-35W bridge project to observe Workers Memorial Day
"The Interstate 35W St. Anthony Bridge project team will cease work for a short period of time at 2 p.m. [April 28] in honor of Workers Memorial Day, according to Minnesota Department of Transportation officials.
